Misty Gray and Fuzzy Pink

This morning is so lovely. Fog and chill and autumn leaves. Hot coffee and cereal. 3 kids and husband snug in their beds. Quiet house. Scratch that, I think Ben just woke up...or maybe it's just the cat jumping down fron the table? Thank goodness for cartoons if it is Ben, LOL, bad mom. The picture doesn't really capture it, but it was worth a try...

Birthday week

My sister's birthday was yesterday, mine is tomorrow, and Rae's is Sunday one week from today! Saturday I finished the "sample" mitten for my sister's "mitten knitting kit". I packed up the yarn and needles and wrote out the pattern for her, as I adapted it from the Ann Budd book. Why is it so hard to give away yarn? To give away the finished object, no problem...but the yarn is another story. Hmmm, it is my precioussss, it is, I keeps it in my pocketses, nasty hobbit wantss my preciousssss yarn. Right, well, anyhow, I told her she could give the yarn back and I'd make the other one if the mitten pattern looked too scary, but she said she's going to give it a try. (go sister!) We have lunch usually on Mondays, so she's going to bring it tomorrow and I'll be available for tech support while she gets started. The yarns are kidsilk haze (fuzzy sewing thread indeed, Kath, and I can't imagine knitting on that alone.) Running together with Rowan Tapestry, though, it was very nice. The Tapestry is wool and soy, nice and soft. The color changes were longer than I thought they would be, but I think it turned out well in the end.

Other crafty stuff

I think it was about 2 years straight we had Rachel's paper preschool Christmas wreath up on our door, yes that's all year round for 2 years, 24/7/365. Thanks to Russell who made a comment that somehow motivated me to get back into the habit of having seasonal wreathes on the door, I made a nice summer wreath before Sam was born. This week I made one to get in the Halloween spirit. I am so not a photographer! But it's fun to play with spray paint an the hot glue gun!

Also pink and gray...I cast on again for the mate to my Summer Sock Party sock, using size 3's this time, and I got gauge - or at least it looks like it will be the same size as the one Cece knit. I was having trouble figuring out the stretchy yarn, but apparently the trick is to repeat the mantra with each stitch "stay loose. loose. loose. loose." Worked for me anyhow. ;) Haven't started knitting yet on the Harvest Sock, because...I'm not sure where I put my needles...hopefully they will turn up this week.

Today I get to go have coffee and do math with Katherine, and I *so* *need* *to* *get* *my* *paper* *done* *today*. One way or other, it will be turned in on the 13th, but it would really be best if my advisor can have a look before it goes to the committee. On that note...have a good week, wish me luck, and happy knitting!

BTW, must have been the cat or Ben would have wandered in here by now...time to write.
